What is a Correctional Officer?

Prior to your start in the field of a corrections officer and before you begin your correctional officer training, it would be wise to first understand what is involved in the career, to include what the required skills and training could be but more importantly, what is the job description corrections officer.

As mentioned before in a previous post, which can be found here, the role of a correctional officer can go by many different names and titles, but there are many similarities between all of these.

A correctional officer ensure the security and safety of our nations correctional facilities at the local, state, and federal level. These men and women responsible for guarding people that have been arrested, or who have been convicted of a crime and sentenced to serve time in a correctional facility.

The primary function of a correctional officer is to maintain safety, security, and inmate accountability in order to prevent any and all disturbances and violence if at all possible.

Although a correctional officer has no law enforcement responsibilities outside of their place of duty, while there, correctional officers are tasked to maintain order with the particular institution while at the same time enforcing the rules and regulations that they are sworn to uphold.
