Correctional Officer Requirements for Wyoming


In order to become a Correctional Officer with the Wyoming Department of Corrections, you must meet the following criteria: at least 18 years old, a United State citizen, have a high school diploma or GED, and must be able to possess and carry a firearm.

Factors that disqualify you from employment include the inability to pass a background check due to criminal history. You may not have any felony convictions.

You must not have any convictions due to the manufacture, use, sale, or possession of a controlled substance within the last five years. It must be at least one year since a DUI conviction.

There cannot be any pending criminal proceedings or investigations against you. Providing false or misleading information during the hiring process or cheating on testing will automatically disqualify you.

To apply, fill out an Official State of Wyoming Application, a background questionnaire, and IRS Form 8821. Links to the required forms are found here. Additional forms to send in with your application include copies of: high school diploma/college transcripts, credit report, driver’s license, and Social Security card, passport, or birth certificate.

The Wyoming Department of Corrections Training Academy is a 10-Week POST Certified Basic Training Academy. You will have nine weeks of broad instruction and one week of job shadowing. Training topics include de-escalation techniques, communication skills, report writing, ethics, and defensive tactics. During POST, you will be required to pass a physical fitness test that involves sit-ups, push-ups, and a 1.5-mile run and is based on gender and age standards.

    My name is larry cooke it suckes you would not give me a chance to work for you im a convicted felon from 2007 i was 17 at the time ill be 25 but as a excon i no what inmates think feel and no where they hide stuff i could even save a life .im 270 pounds i carry my own . my crime was was homeinvasion 2nd and larceny from a motor vehicle.if there is any way u would consider hireing me let me no ill make thoes steps .sincerely larry
